Lakers jersey history No. 15 — Ron Carter

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Ron Carter, a 6-foot-5 guard, was a big star during the 1970s at the Virginia Military Institute, where he played in the NCAA Tournament twice and averaged 19.2 points and seven rebounds a game in his four seasons there. The Lakers took him in the second round of the 1978 NBA Draft, and in one season with them, he averaged 3.1 points in 7.2 minutes a game.

The Lakers waived him just prior to the start of the next season, and he ended up playing in 13 games with the Indiana Pacers that season. Carter ended up joining then-Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss in the real estate industry and made a nice second career for himself.
