49ers' Christian McCaffrey is sick of playing Buccaneers for one specific reason

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been around the league for a while, spending his 4.5 years with the Carolina Panthers before the last 4.5 in San Francisco, and in those nine years, he’s gone against some of the best.

Playing in the NFC for his whole career, and specifically in the NFC South for the first half of it, McCaffrey has played more games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10) than any other team in the league besides the New Orleans Saints (10).

With that, McCaffrey has spent a lot of time preparing to take on veteran linebacker Lavonte David, and at this point, he’s not looking forward to another battle with the three-time All-Pro and one of the best linebackers of the generation.

“I’m sick of him,” McCaffrey said with a smile. “He’s a hell of a player, always brings a big challenge. He’s just somebody that has always played the game the right way, and in my opinion, doesn’t ever get enough credit. Once again, just their whole defense, and guys like him, when you have a veteran like that, they spark a lot of challenge that you have to be ready for.”

McCaffrey has has plenty of success against Tampa Bay, rushing for 590 yards and six touchdowns on 4.1 yards per attempt and catching 44 passes for 399 yards and four scores. His teams have also won seven of their 10 matchups, with his last loss coming in Week 2 of the 2020 season when he was with the Panthers.

The 29-year-old clearly has a ton of respect for David, but if this were their last matchup, he wouldn’t be too upset.
