Labor Day marks final ‘summer’ days

The temperature this coming Labor Day weekend promises to be quite comfortable, in the 70’s, along with clear skies which means summer’s last hurrah will bring plenty of activities across the county.
Here’s a short list by municipality:

City of Algonac
The 53rd Annual Algonac Art Fair takes over the Algonac Riverfront Park on Saturday and Sunday.
Dates: Saturday, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Place: Algonac City Riverfront Park, along the banks of the river off St. Clair River Drive.
Highlights: Over 80 artists, a Juried Art Fair, live entertainment and various food options.

City of Avoca
A five-mile walk across the Mill Creek trestle on the Wadhams to Avoca Trail, called the annual ‘Trek the Trestle’ will take place on Labor Day. The first walk, planned to go along with the annual walk on the Mackinaw Bridge in northern Michigan, took place in 2007.

The 17th annual ‘Trek the Trestle’, a five-mile Labor Day morning walk across a bridge in Avoca welcomes all ages to join the fun.
Date: Monday, September 1st at 9 a.m.
Where: Start at the Avoca Trailhead in downtown Avoca and walk across the trestle to the Imlay City trailhead and back – it’s five miles total.
Point of interest: As part of the event, participants cross the 640 ft. Mill Creek trestle, the longest bridge of its kind in the State of Michigan.

Harsens Island
The Harsens Island Lions Club will host its 76th annual three-day Turkey Shoot event this weekend. A pirate theme will highlight the weekend including a parade on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The 76th Annual Turkey Shoot will be held Saturday, Sunday and Monday and hosted by the Harsens Island Lions Club.
Dates: Saturday, Aug. 30, Sunday, Aug. 31 and Monday, Sept. 1 – hours vary – see schedule
Activities: Trap shoot competitions daily from noon, live music, concessions, many children’s carnival games, inflatables, face painting and water balloon toss to name a few.
Note: The Harsens Island Lioness Lions are hosting a dozen special activities for children and Saturday and Sunday.
Port Huron
Prohibition Tour – Teetotaler Edition – same interesting tour but without the booze – a special event hosted by the Port Huron Museum. It’s a general history trolley tour of the area while a host shares names, places, events and fun facts.
Date: Saturday, August 30, 2025
Time: 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Cost: $20 – $30

Field Day and Southside Music Festival
Presented by the NAACP Port Huron Branch this festival will include free live music including jazz, soul. R&B and Funk at Lincoln Park. Bring lawn chairs. Free hot dog meals to first 50 children, free children’s book give away, bounce houses, free bike and gift card raffles and lots of vendors.
Date: Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025
Time: Noon to 8 p.m.
Location: Lincoln Park is located at 2720 South Blvd.
