Young, promising defensive tackle confirms return to Michigan State

Michigan State football earned the massive in-state commitment from Derrick Simmons in the 2025 recruiting class, beating out six other power conference foes for the 4-star defensive lineman’s commitment.

A Frankenmuth (MI) native, Simmons came into MSU as the No. 245 overall player, paired with being the No. 4 player in Michigan. Expectations were high. In his true freshman season, he laid the foundation to exceeding those expectations, playing in 52 snaps over four games, recording two tackles.

Getting on the field as a defensive lineman, as a true freshman, is a massive thing considering the difficulty of pulling it off. The 6-foot-3, 300 pound defensive tackle certainly factors into the future plans for MSU.

Simmons took to social media to reaffirm and confirm his decision to stay in East Lansing for the 2026 season.
