COLDWATER—After 25 years in Coldwater, Meijer store #179 is undergoing a $6 million face-lift and renovation.
Customers see signs of the work in the store, which will remain open during construction, according to the building permit issued by the city of Coldwater on April 10.

The permit said work would be completed by Oct. 7.
Meijer did not respond to emails requesting comment and further information.
The permit said most of the work will take place in the interior.
“There will be new finishes to align with the current aesthetics and merchandising standards” outside and inside, the permit read.
Exterior work consists of repainting the store with new signs and re-striping the parking lot.
The newly opened, smaller Hillsdale store shows Meijer’s current styles.
The permit said the pharmacy would be partially rebuilt. A few years ago, Meijer added a drive-thru in the southwest corner.
Changes will open up the butcher/seafood area.
Some departments will relocate to expand the grocery section.
The bottle return was closed and moved to the store’s west side while that section is upgraded.
Paradigm Design P.C. plans call for bathroom updates.
Marks on the floor show new displays and equipment locations.
Crews are replacing all the floor tiles in the store, one section at a time.
Last year, Meijer changed the check-out area, reducing the number of full-service cashiers and expanding self-checkout at both ends of the storefront.
Part of the upgrade and renovation is a separate renovation and upgrade of the Meijer gas station along U.S. 12.
The only notice of the work in the store is a display with plastic kids’ hard hats at the entrances. The message is, “Good things are happening. Thanks for your patience.”
