After closing all its Michigan locations in recent years, the celebrity-backed Wahlburgers burger chain is returning.
A location from the burger joint founded by actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and their chef brother, Paul Wahlberg, is set to open at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus.
Offering counter-service and operated by Delaware North, Wahlburgers is opening on Aug. 4 in Terminal A of the McNamara Terminal.
“Detroit holds a special place in the heart of the Wahlberg family, which makes opening a Wahlburgers at Detroit Metro Airport especially meaningful,” said Randy Sharpe, CEO of Wahlburgers, in a news release. “We’re thrilled to bring the family’s favorite recipes to travelers, giving them a taste of our signature flavors while on the go. Detroit has such a strong sense of pride and personality — just like our brand — so it feels like a perfect fit. Whether you’re catching a flight or just craving a great burger, we’ve got you covered.”
On the menu for travelers on the go or for dining in is a tribute to the Wahlberg family recipes.
The chain will offer its signature gourmet burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast items. While travelers can expect a variety of its signature 100% Certified Angus Beef burgers, there are also breakfast burgers and burritos, an Impossible burger and a crispy chicken ranch sandwich.
At the airport, the restaurant will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. daily and operate near the food court across from the terminal’s A64 gate.
Walhburgers says more airport locations are on the horizon.
Opening later this year is a location at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, and there is an existing location at Boston Logan International Airport.
The Wahlburgers family-owned burger chain got its start more than a dozen years ago in Massachusetts by the three brothers. At locations, its walls celebrate the family’s story through photos and words. Wahlburgers was also the subject of a reality show on A&E that ran from 2014 to 2019.
