Dearborn — A self-professed anti-Muslim activist and pardoned Jan. 6 rioter who shouted into a bullhorn about illegal immigration during a religious celebration Sunday was apparently attacked by a crowd before Dearborn police shuttled him into a squad car, according to multiple videos posted online.
“We support ICE,” right-wing provocateur Jake Lang shouted into his bullhorn on Greenfield Road, according to the videos. “We do not want these illegal immigrants here … I speak the name of Jesus.”
According to one video, a man walked up to Lang and punched him from behind. A group of men then chased Lang through a lot, before police officers pushed him into a cruiser and told the crowd to disburse, according to the videos.
The incident happened during Sunday’s Arbaeen celebration, which emulates the annual pilgrimage of Shia Muslims to the Karbala, Iraq, shrine of Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The event marks the day Husayn and his family were killed in the battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
Dearborn Police officials did not respond to requests for comment Sunday.
Lang posted to his X account Sunday: “Dearborn Police have JUST released the DRONE footage of Muslim animals throwing massive STONES at my head…They tried to rip me out of a SQUAD CAR & kill me in Jihad Thank you Jesus Christ I am still alive.”
The drone footage that accompanied Lang’s post was a different angle of the same incident posted to Facebook by multiple accounts, including TCD Dearborn News.
In a separate post, Lang wrote: “I was just nearly STONED to death by hundreds of savage Muslims in Dearborn Michigan. I was hit right the back of the head with a rock & I’m bleeding. I’m in the back of a Police car now.”
Lang did not respond to a message seeking comment.
Lang has been in Dearborn previously, including an incident last year in which competing groups of protesters tussled. Following the incident, Lang said he’d filed a federal lawsuit against the city, mayor and police chief, claiming they’d failed to protect him. But no record of the lawsuit exists on Pacer, the U.S. District Court database.
He was a participant in the 2021 Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack, for which he served four years in prison. Charges against Lang and others charged in the incident were dismissed by President Donald Trump on the first day of his second presidency in 2025.
Following the pardon, Lang, a Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate special election in Florida, has had multiple run-ins with the law. He was accused of threatening a Capitol Police officer during a March event commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot.
In an incident in Minneapolis in July, he was charged with defacing an anti-ICE sculpture in front of the Minnesota State Capitol.
Lang also was arrested in Dallas County, Texas, in June for making a terrorist threat. His bond was set at $1 million, and later reduced to $250,000.
