A longtime dream is coming true for Kim Precour, the soon-to-be-operator of Sugartown Sweets & Soda Shoppe at 117 W. Adrian St. in Blissfield.
Precour, originally from Michigan, moved to Blissfield with her husband in 2019 after spending two decades in Seattle. The idea of opening a candy shop, she said, dates back to when the couple first met 26 years ago.
“This year, I had the opportunity to move forward,” she said. “I’m creating a space that I hope will bring people into Blissfield from the surrounding communities, creating an environment where people gather and create memories.”
Sugartown Sweets & Soda Shoppe will feature a wide selection of candies, including bulk options from smaller, specialty confectioners; chocolates from California and Pennsylvania and Europe; and saltwater taffy from the East Coast. The store will also highlight products from local candymakers.
“We’ve had a lot of fun trying candies that are unique,” Precour said.
A centerpiece of the shop will be an Italian soda bar, where specialty sodas will be handcrafted to order, adding an interactive and customizable element for customers. In the coming months, Precour hopes to create a space where visitors can watch confections being made.
“I’m hoping to complete that aspect closer to the holiday season,” she said.
The store is coming together, with shelving recently installed, but an opening date hasn’t yet been announced. Precour is excited to contribute to the community’s sense of place and help draw more visitors to Blissfield.
“We truly love (Blissfield) and are thrilled to be part of making (this) a place to visit and experience everything offered here in our small town,” she said.
