Car shows can have many different reasons behind the event. The Oakland Community College Car Show and Auto Labs Tour hosted a parking lot full of vehicles alongside an open house for the upcoming fall semester. There were cars on display, tours of the Auto Lab and professors from the OCC automotive programs available to explain more about what the school is offering.
Cars on campus
This free event was held on Aug. 1 at the Oakland Community College campus in Auburn Hills. There was a blend of modern and classic muscle cars, motorcycles and other modified vehicles. Many of the vehicles came from car fanatics local to the area and some were alumni from OCC. There were about 50 cars in attendance and a few hundred spectators.
Turning car lovers into technicians
The cars were only half of the event, which also drew attention to the automotive servicing careers at the college. With all of the cool cars at events and on the road, someone needs to train people to fix them.
OCC’s automobile servicing and collision repair programs offer students instruction and a chance to earn an ASE certification.
Tours for the Auto Labs were open to anyone who wanted a closer look at what the programs had to offer. Inside the facility, classic cars were being restored, others sat needing repair from collisions, and there was an area for painting and touching up vehicles, including a detailing center for the finishing touches. Another room featured various car parts on display like engines, transmissions, brakes and suspension systems.
