St. Clair County voters renewed three countywide millages during the Aug. 4 election.
Countywide millages
St. Clair County Community College District millage
Voters approved the renewal of the St. Clair County Community College District millage during Tuesday’s election, with 54.18% voting in favor.
Unofficial results showed the proposal passed, 19,494 votes (54.18%) yes to 16,485 votes (45.82%) no.
The proposal renews the college’s existing operating millage for four years, from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2031. The renewal will continue funding job training and retraining programs, repairs and technology upgrades, improvements to equipment and buildings, and the maintenance and expansion of junior-senior and four-year college offerings. If levied in full, the millage is expected to generate about $3.7 million in its first year.
“The passage of the SC4 millage is a powerful vote of confidence in our college, our mission, and most importantly, our students,” SC4 President Kirk Kramer said. “On behalf of everyone at St. Clair County Community College, I want to sincerely thank the residents of our community for their trust and support.”
Kramer said the investment reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening the local workforce and ensuring SC4 continues providing high-quality education for future generations.
“We are honored by your partnership and remain dedicated to serving our students and our community with excellence,” he said.
Senior citizens millage
Voters also approved the renewal of the St. Clair County Senior Citizens Millage during Tuesday’s election, with 73.05% voting in favor.
The proposal received 29,428 votes (73.05%) yes to 10,859 votes (26.95%) no.
The proposal renews the county’s senior services millage for four years. The renewal will continue funding services provided by 12 organizations serving older adults throughout St. Clair County. If levied in full, the renewed millage is expected to generate about $4.3 million in its first year.
“We’re very grateful that the community supported the senior service millage and shows support to the 12 agencies that are funded from it,” said Scott Crawford, executive director of The Council on Aging, serving St. Clair County.
“With our county growing older faster, it’s definitely needed.”
Ambulance services millage
St. Clair County Ambulance Services Millage was also renewed during Tuesday’s election, with 75.98% voting in favor.
Unofficial results showed 30,651 votes (75.98%) in favor of the proposal and 9,689 votes (24.02%) against it.
The proposal renews the county’s ambulance services millage for four years, from 2026 through 2029. The funding is distributed to local municipalities to provide operating and capital funding for ambulance services throughout St. Clair County. If levied in full, the renewed millage is expected to generate about $4.3 million in its first year.
“The EMS community in St. Clair County is very pleased with the voice of the voters,” said Timothy Niggemeyer, president and CEO of Tri-Hospital EMS. “The overwhelming support from our community is a strong message.”
Niggemeyer said the funding will allow local ambulance providers to continue delivering emergency medical services throughout the county.
“Our mission is to provide great service to our community, and this funding allows us to continue doing that,” he said.
