BATTLE CREEK — The fans have spoken.
And, this year, they are twice as loud.
New this year, the Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, will have two winners. There will be a boys and a girls Athlete of the Week winner.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Boys Athlete of the Week fan poll is Jordan Roe of the Battle Creek Central football team.
The winner of the latest Enquirer Girls Athlete of the Week fan poll is Josie Pawlowicz of the Lakeview girls swimming and diving team and Spartan golf team.
Boys Athlete of the Week – Jordan Roe
Jordan Roe helped Battle Creek Central defeat city rival Lakeview 39-13 in Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference football action. Jordan Roe had a standout defensive game as BCC held Lakeview scoreless in the second half. Roe had a team-high 14 tackles for the Bearcats.
“Jordan has battled back from a season-ending injury in Week 2 of last year, having surgery on his spine and learning how to move all over again. He is a warrior and is finally seeing the fruits of his labor. I am very proud of him,” Battle Creek Central football coach Lorin Granger said.
Girls Athlete of the Week – Josie Pawlowicz
Senior Josie Pawlowicz finished with All-City honors in two different sports during the week. Pawlowicz finished third at the All-City Girls Golf Tournament as the high finisher for Lakeview with a round of 48. Pawlowicz also competed in the All-City Girls Swimming and Diving Championships and was All-City champ in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.8.
“Josie’s energy and spirit have been contagious, keeping the team fired up all week. She brought home city titles in the medley relay, 200 free relay and 100 breaststroke. Her mix of big performances and positive leadership makes her such a key part of our team,” Lakeview girls swim coach Andy Fredenburg said.
Lakeview girls golf coach Zachary Rutherford added, “Big shoutout to Josie for an awesome golf season. She played consistently well all year and capped it off by placing third at all-city, a huge accomplishment.”
