Rapper Sada Baby sentenced to probation in drug case plea deal

A Detroit rapper was sentenced to six months of non-reporting probation Thursday after police caught him with illegal drugs last year during a traffic stop.

Shelby Township resident Casada Sorrell, whose stage name is “Sada Baby,” was also sentenced to three days in jail, with time for credit served, said Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Esther Wolfe said.

He was stopped by Sterling Heights Police on Jan. 9, 2025 on Mound Road, near 18 Mile around 4 a.m. After learning that he had an outstanding warrant for driving without a license, police took him into custody.

Officers found a bag in his driver’s side door pocket containing oxycodone hydrochloride, a Schedule 2 controlled substance for which Sorrell did not have a prescription.

Sorrell was charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams, a 4-year felony, and he was also charged as a habitual offender, with previous larceny and weapons convictions.

In July he pleaded no contest to the charge, with the habitual tag dropped, according to court records.

The booking photograph from Sorrell’s arrest, in which he appears to be smiling with his eyes wide, went viral. Celebrity gossip show TMZ labeled his facial contortion an “epic expression.”

Sorrell has nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify. His songs “Whole Lotta Choppas” and “Pressin (feat. King Von)” have racked up more than 50 million plays.
