COLDWATER, MI — Mother Nature, with rain and hail, quickly halted the city’s annual Earth Day downtown clean-up on Wednesday, April 22.
Nearly 50 volunteers had just gathered at Four Corners Park at 2 p.m. when storms swept in from Lake Michigan, bringing heavy rain and hail as a storm moved southeast into Indiana.
Nickel and dime-sized hail fell across downtown, forcing volunteers from civic clubs, businesses, and city staff to stop their efforts. The group returned to the streets after the storm passed and completed the work.
They enjoyed a pizza party provided by Broadway Grill.
The Department of Municipal Services provided supplies for the cleanup, which will help prepare for upcoming events, starting with the 16th Annual Walk A Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser on Saturday.
Other events include the Cultural Jubilee on Saturday, May 16, and the Strawberry Fest on Saturday, June 20.
