Nine Monroe County Region baseball and softball players have been named first-team all-state by the coaches’ associations.
There were five softball honorees – second baseman Avery Leach of Monroe and catcher Aubrey Hensley of Bedford in Division 1 and second basemen Sara Giroux of Flat Rock and Olivia Tilley of Airport along with catcher Leila Daniels of Milan in Division 2.
Making the grade for baseball were Flat Rock pitcher Mike Giroux and New Boston Huron infielder Noah Banas in Division 2 and Ida pitcher Jaxon Millican and Whiteford infielder Tre Eitniear in Division 3.
The baseball coaches pick a first and second team. Region players earning second team status were Jorden Yancy, Flat Rock; Miles Grace, New Boston Huron; Brennan Runyon, St. Mary Catholic Central, and Russell LaRocca, Summerfield.
Softball coaches have an honorable mention list for players who don’t make the first team. Region players picked for that were Maci Willey, Monroe; Maddy Kwiatkowski and Nyah Mullins, Bedford; Addison Kopp, Flat Rock; Ava Stevens, Whiteford, and Tori Busen, St. Mary Catholic Central.
PREP FOOTBALL
Region has four all-stars
SOUTHFIELD – Logan Goodin of Erie Mason, Jackson Wertenberger of Ida, Drew Harris of St. Mary Catholic Central and CJ Offerman of Milan all will play for the East team in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All-Star Game Saturday.
Goodin and Harris are listed as running backs and Wertenberger and Offerman as offensive linemen.
The game will be played at Lawrence Tech University in Southfield. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $10. There is a $10 parking fee.
GOLF
Hole aced two times
MONROE – Frank Cooper and Aaron Bowman both recorded a hole-in-one on the 175-yard No. 17 hole at Green Meadows Golf Course recently.
It was the first ace for Cooper, who used a 6-iron on Friday, June 13.
Bowman got his the next day with a 7-iron.
Whiteford outing set
OTTAWA LAKE – The 35th annual Whiteford Bobcat Boosters Golf Outing will be held July 11 at the Legacy Golf Course in Ottawa Lake.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The fee is $100 per golfer.

ADULT SOCCER
Swinkey scores four
MONROE – Talen Swinkey scored four goals and Evie Brandys added two to lead Monroe Nutrition to an 11-5 win over Atletico in the Monroe Indoor Adult Coed Soccer League at LevelUp Training Sunday.
Stephanie Zecman, Ryan Murray, Alex Gawel, Steve Bucknor and Habeeb Bello scored for Atletico.
