Chants of “Go green!” and “Go white!” are sure to be plentiful this homecoming weekend at Michigan State University.
With a parade and football game both on the schedule, here’s what you need to know:
What time is the homecoming game?
The Spartans will face off against UCLA at noon on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Spartan Stadium.
The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
The Spartans are looking for a win after losing their last two games — both of which were against teams in the Big Ten conference.
What time does the parade start?
The MSU Homecoming parade will kick off around 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, following a 1.5 mile-long route from the corner of Abbot Road and Burcham Drive down to Grand River Avenue, before turning onto campus at Farm Lane. The parade will end just past the Grand River bridge.
The parade will include participants from various MSU organizations, including the Michigan State Marching Band and Sparty himself.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Paul Rosenberg, a 1993 alumnus of MSU’s College of Social Science. Rosenberg is primarily known for his work in the music industry, including working as Eminem’s manger and serving as co-president of Shady Records. He was formerly CEO of Def Jam Recordings, and served as an executive producer on projects like “8 Mile” and “The Defiant Ones,” according to the MSU Alumi website.
What roads will be closed for the MSU homecoming parade?
There will be multiple sets of closures for the parade. From around 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be closures on:
Driveways and above streets will not be blocked, allowing employees, residents and guests to come and go until 4:30 p.m., according to the City of East Lansing.
From 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., there will be closures on:
Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and Collingwood Drive and Farm Lane is expected to be closed from 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
East and westbound traffic is encouraged to use Saginaw Street instead during the closures, while northbound and southbound traffic can travel along Harrison or Hagadorn roads.
Where can I park for the homecoming weekend?
There are plenty of parking options on or off campus to choose between.
For the football game, all on-campus parking lots will open at 7 a.m., with public lots available for $40. The MSU commuter Lot 89 has parking available for $20, with shuttles starting two hours prior to the game.
Off campus, people can park in various ramps and garages around East Lansing, or try their luck at free street parking in some neighborhoods north of campus.
Visitors can see how many open parking spaces are in individual lots by checking on cityofeastlansing.com/liveparking.
