Michigan State hockey took a big hit earlier this summer when Anaheim Ducks first round pick Nikita Klepov decided to forgo his season at Michigan State and instead sign an entry level contract with the Ducks.
With the roster spot opening up for Michigan State, the Spartans have found a replacement for the void that Klepov has left. Diego Johnson has made his commitment to Michigan State. Johnson was previously committed to UConn, where he was expected to join the Huskies in 2027-28.
Coming from the Penticton Vees of the WHL, Johnson is a 5-foot-11 and 180 pound winger that has a plethora of junior experience. Playing in 129 games in junior hockey, Johnson scored 45 goals while adding 46 assists between his time in the WHL and USHL.
