South Lyon, who lost, 5-4, to Lake Orion in the 2024 Division 1 final, has now fallen short in the state finals in consecutive years. It beat Utica Ford 1-0 in a semifinal matchup on Thursday, June 12, behind a shutout from ace Havanna Bissett to advance to the title game.

Saline, meanwhile, beat Hudsonville, 5-4, on Thursday to advance to its first championship game.

The Division 2 game kicked off the day, with Richmond beating Paw Paw by a final score of 3-0 to win the school’s third state title. Richmond was led by pitcher Katie Shuboy, who pitched a complete-game shutout and went 2-for-2 from the cleanup spot for an all-around star performance.

The Blue Devils are led by coach Howard Stuart, the coach at Richmond for 47 years, who last led the school to a state title in 2021.

Paw Paw advanced to the Division 2 title game on a walk-off home run from sophomore Elizabeth Vanderburg in a 3-2 victory over Carleton Airport on Thursday.
