A Clinton County man has been charged in a crash that killed two Michigan Department of Transportation workers in May.
Tyler Reck, 24, of DeWitt, turned himself in Thursday at the 55th District Court in Mason, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.
There, he was arraigned on two counts each of reckless driving causing death and moving violation causing death in a work zone.
Authorities allege that Reck was speeding through a construction zone on U.S. 127, south of Holt Road, south of Lansing, when he lost control of his vehicle and struck MDOT employees Bruce Wagner and Steve Spenle, as they were working to repair potholes.
Wagner, 51, and Spenle, 49, both of Mason, were killed in the crash while Reck was initially hospitalized with critical injuries.
During Reck’s arraignment Thursday, he was released on his own recognizance and his next court appearance was slated for Aug. 11.
Each count against him is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Online court records do not list an attorney for Reck.

The fatalities were two of the 22 workplace deaths so far this year in Michigan, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), which is investigating the incident.
MDOT said there were roughly 6,000 crashes in work zones in 2025, resulting in the deaths of 22 motorists and three construction workers. The department said those figures were comparable with incidents in 2024.
