The Detroit Lions (0-1) and Washington Commanders (1-0) are set for a Saturday clash from Ford Field in the two teams’ second NFL preseason games of 2026.
Detroit dropped its preseason opener, 16-14, at the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 13, while Washington topped the Miami Dolphins, 20-7, on Aug. 14. Lions head coach Dan Campbell revealed that Detroit starting quarterback Jared Goff won’t play against the Commanders.
Detroit is starting veteran quarterback Josh Dobbs, who will split reps with rookie quarterback Luke Altmyer. Commanders starting quarterback Jayden Daniels didn’t play in Washington’s preseason opener, but he could see some time against the Lions on Saturday afternoon.

Lions vs. Commanders NFL preseason betting odds, prediction
It’s an NFL preseason game and we just don’t know a ton about who will play each way. But, this is the preseason game that Lions head coach Dan Campbell has indicated throughout training camp that the Lions will play a significant number of its starters.
“I’m not going to tell you guys, but not everybody will play. I would tell you that. We are going to play a significant amount of the starters. That’s my plan right now,” Campbell said earlier this week.
This is the best chance to predict a Lions victory in the NFL preseason. So, that’s exactly the play here. Put your faith in the Passtronaut and take the Lions -1.5.
Prediction: Lions 20, Commanders 17
