How much rain will Michigan get today? See the latest predictions

Rain is expected to develop again Tuesday, April 14, and linger through Wednesday, April 15, worsening Michigan’s flooded rivers across the Lower Peninsula.

“Flood Watch in effect tonight (April 14) through Thursday (April 16). Potential for rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms move through. 3 to 4 inches are possible in some areas depending on thunderstorm coverage and duration,” the Detroit National Weather Service office said on X on April 14.

Southeast Michigan could see severe weather Tuesday night, the NWS added.

The Gaylord NWS office said the heaviest rain would fall south of M-72, which could provide a reprieve for officials dealing with high water behind several Northern Michigan dams this week.

“A slight break is possible today but rain & storms return this evening/tonight. All hazards are on the table, depending on how far north the front stays today. Best shot at heavy rain will be south of M-72, and esp near M-55,” the NWS said on X on April 14.

The NWS Water Prediction Center said to prepare for considerable river and small stream flooding. The weather service said rain and snowmelt will combine to cause issues through the end of the week.

The current severe weather outlook has the highest Midwest risk in Wisconsin, but West Michigan and along the southern border also face elevated risks.

“125 Million Americans are under a severe weather threat today. The greatest risk zone is from eastern Iowa into southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois,” the NWS said.
