Here are the local baseball, softball players who were named all-state

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — A handful of local baseball and softball players earned their way onto the all-state lists for the season. Those all-state teams were released on Tuesday afternoon by the Michigan High School Softball and Baseball Coaches Associations.

The Mendon softball team had the most local recipients on the All-State teams. The Hornets were the long state championship-winning team on the diamonds in the area, having ended Unionville-Sebewaing’s run of five consecutive Division 4 state titles on Saturday at Secchia Stadium on the campus of Michigan State University, 11-1.

The all-state squads come in two forms for softball — first team and honorable mention. Multiple players are selected to each position for each division. For baseball there are first and second teams.

The Division 4 softball first team recipients were Jadyn Samson (shortstop), Cienna Nightingale (first base), Ally Butler (second base) and Rowan Allen (pitcher) from Mendon. Burr Oak senior pitcher Brooklynn Root was also selected to the team as a pitcher.

Brielle Bailey (third base) of Mendon and Braylyn Hernandez (catcher) of Burr Oak were selected to the honorable mention team.

The Division 3 softball first team recipients were Lydia Wells (catcher) and Ashlynn Harris (pitcher) of Bronson. Kailynne Scare (outfield) was named to the honorable mention squad for the Vikings.

In baseball, Mason Awe of Three Rivers was named second team all-state for Division 2. Abram Coffey of Marcellus was selected to the second team for Division 4.
