Fans react to brutal MSU hockey NCAA Tournament loss, overall bad sports weekend

What happened on Saturday night to Michigan State hockey will stick with the players, coaches and fans for a long time. And the fans were quick to voice their displeasure on social media.

Michigan State hockey had its first Frozen Four in nearly 20 years in grasp, but couldn’t close out the Badgers and were stunned in overtime. The Spartans blew a two-goal lead in the final five minutes of regulation, and then gave up a goal less than a minute into overtime to lose 4-3 and once again fall short of reaching the Frozen Four. The stunning loss to the Badgers knocked the Spartans out of the NCAA Tournament and again put a sour taste in the mouths of the program after a stellar regular season.

Saturday’s collapse in the final minutes marked a third straight season where Michigan State failed to make it out of its NCAA Tournament region as the No. 1 seed. That tough ending on Saturday combined with the men’s basketball team losing in the Sweet 16 on Friday night resulted in some fans calling this one of the worst weekends in recent Michigan State sports history.
