Heat wave coming to Ionia County
A heat wave is set to hit West Michigan soon, with dangerously high temperatures and heat indexes expected June 21-24.

At 9:49 a.m. June 20, the National Weather Service issued an extreme heat watch starting the afternoon of June 21 and running through the evening of June 24. In the release, NWS said there will be “dangerously hot conditions” with a heat index of 100 to 105 degrees possible.
The watch covers much of southern Michigan, including Ionia County. NWS said heat-related illnesses “increase significantly” during events of extreme heat and high humidity.
Where can you find cooling centers near Ionia?
The Right Door will have a cooling center open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 23-24 at 375 Apple Tree Drive in Ionia.
Residents can also find air conditioning during regular hours of operation at senior centers, grocery stores and local libraries.
