There’s a birthday party brewing in Hockeytown.
As part of the team’s upcoming 100th anniversary celebration, the Detroit Red Wings unveiled a new anniversary logo along with a host of activities slated for the 2025-26 season.
Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the oldest active NHL franchises and are considered one of the league’s “Original Six” teams. They’re also arguably the most decorated stateside hockey team and one of three franchises celebrating their centennial next season (Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers).
The celebration includes the new centennial logo released on Wednesday, June 25, and a centennial jersey set to go on sale in September.
In a statement released Wednesday, Red Wings owner Chris Ilitch spoke on the modified centennial logo, which harkens back to the early days of the franchise:
“Our iconic Winged Wheel represents more than a team – it symbolizes the grit, pride and championship pedigree, which the Red Wings have exemplified for nearly 100 years.”
Here’s what we know about the Red Wings’ 100-year celebration:
New Red Wings logo and jersey
As part of the team’s 100th anniversary celebration, the Red Wings have revealed a new logo featuring a winged wheel straddling the number “100.”
Many fans have pointed out the similarities between the centennial logo and the sweater logo the team used during the 2014 Winter Classic. The logo has also been getting rave reviews from many commenters on social media.
The Red Wings also announced a new centennial jersey to be revealed later in the summer. The team expects it to go on sale in September, though some centennial merchandise has already gone on sale at the Little Caesars Arena team store.
Red Wings FanFest
The team also announced two special events during FanFest weekend: A four-day celebration at MotorCity Casino and Hotel from Nov. 6-9, and a one-night music and video celebration at Detroit’s Fox Theatre.
The team did not disclose on which date the Fox Theatre event would take place, though a press release stated it would occur during FanFest weekend.
FanFest at MotorCity Casino will feature special guest appearances, autograph sessions and exclusive merchandise over the four-day event.
Other Red Wings centennial events
The Red Wings also announced a special centennial exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum in Midtown, set to run for one year starting in November.
The team’s foundation will also commit to refurbishing ice rinks throughout Michigan in a mission to make hockey more accessible.
