Battle Creek Police arrested a 76-year-old man on felony assault and weapons charges following an early morning incident in the 70 block of Grand Boulevard.
Officers with the Battle Creek Police Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded to the area for a report of a man with a gun just before 2 a.m. Aug. 13.
Officers made contact with a 56-year-old woman who reported an argument with a man known to her. During the incident, the woman fled the residence. Investigators said the man grabbed a firearm, chased her and attempted to assault her by striking the window of a vehicle she had entered, according to a release from the BCPD.
Police said the man refused to exit when officers attempted to make contact at the residence he was staying. Officers established a perimeter and obtained a search warrant before members of the Emergency Response Team responded. Following the team’s arrival, the suspect surrendered and exited the residence without further incident.
The man was arrested on felony assault and weapons charges.
