There’s good food and good fun on the schedule this weekend in Northern Michigan.

Enjoy corn roast and corn soup
Get a taste of summer with two corn-themed events.
The Little Traverse Historical Society is hosting its annual Corn Roast Cookout from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14 at the Little Traverse History Museum. Along with corn from Bill’s Farm Market, there will be brats, hot dogs, coleslaw, watermelon and more, with beer and wine also available for purchase.
The Cheboiganing Cultural Center will be having a Frybread and Corn Soup Sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16 at the Pellston Historical Museum. Proceeds will benefit cultural programs and community events.
Paddle in Aldo’s footsteps
The Little Traverse Conservancy invites kayakers to join a Woods & Waters outing on Friday, Aug. 14.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., the group will kayak through Hessel Bay and discuss the life and legacy of Aldo Leopold, author of “A Sand County Almanac” and a prominent conservationist who spent many seasons in the Les Cheneaux Islands area. The group will paddle along the shoreline of Club Point, past the site of the Leopold family cottage and visit the Aldo Leopold Preserve.

Cruise the car show
American House Charlevoix’s annual car show is set for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15.
The event begins with an 11 a.m. cruise-in to register, followed by an afternoon including live music from the River Road Band, hot dogs and drinks. Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and runner-up. Proceeds benefit the Charlevoix Area Humane Society.

Enjoy live music
The Grammy-award winning Akropolis Reed Quintet will close out the Chamberfest series at the Cheboygan Opera House on Saturday, Aug. 15.
The 7 p.m. concert is described as a celebration of “our nation’s 250th anniversary by featuring great American composers such as Gershwin and Bernstein.”
Tickets are $25-$30, and student tickets are free.

Hit the trails
Michigan’s second Free ORV Weekend offers the chance for residents and visitors to enjoy the state’s 4,000 miles of off-road vehicle trails and routes.
On Aug. 15-16, people can legally ride without an ORV license or trail permit. All other rules and laws still apply.
