The April 17 regular meeting of the Marine City Commission lasted about 53-minutes and Commissioner Jacob Bryson was absent.
Here are a few highlights:
New Guy Community Center open house set
On Saturday, May 3 there will be an open house at the new Guy Community Center at 545 Ward Street, the former Lions Club. The event is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and it’s being coordinated with the Marine City Little League who are hosting their opening day ceremonies on the same day. The Little League is donating hot dogs for those who attend the games and open house. City Clerk Jason Bell said multiple city departments will be on site to answer questions and city officials will show off the improvements to the former Lions Hall with boards and charts displaying future plans. “We’ve invited the chamber as well and I believe they’ll be doing a ribbon cutting to dedicate that building,” Bell said. “Come on out, get some free hot dogs, say hi to city workers, see some fire trucks, DPW trucks, police cars, all that good stuff.”

Marine City Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick reminded residents that if they have questions or concerns about the water project in the city, they need to call the city offices or the DPW.
Shred Day turned out great
A recent city-wide shred day was a big success with the city collecting over 5,500 pounds of paper to be shredded by the city’s service, Extreme Shred, according to City Clerk Jason Bell. In addition, people brought donations for the city’s Easter event including candy, easter eggs, baskets and all kinds of things, filling two and half large moving boxes Bell also took a few moments to thank City Manager Michael Reaves, Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick, Commissioner Rita Roehrig and Deputy Clerk Carol Brown for attending and helping out at the shred day. He also thanked the public for their support of the Easter festivities.
Hearing on waster water treatment plant project
A public hearing on the waste water system improvements project was held at the recent meeting but no one stepped up to speak. The commission then adopted Resolution 008-2025 adopting the final project plan for the waste water system improvements.
Commissioner Sean O’Brien said while this was another infrastructure project and there’s financial anxieties that come with it, it was another essential service to provide to the community.
“Our dozens of fans that watch us on YouTube will have noted that we’ve been doing regular repairs and emergency repairs to keep this thing functioning,” O’Brien said. “And it’s really nice moving to a place where we’re going to get ahead and keep this functional where it won’t be a very expensive crisis that we’re spending more money on.”
“This can do both preventive updates and maintain the equipment to safety standards,” he added.
“I think the biggest thing is none of us want to pay extra but we can’t just keep kicking this down the road,” Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick said.
O’Brien said the cost to the users still isn’t it solidified yet but the city will continue to look at grants to offset the costs.
Hendrick says don’t use Facebook for water project concerns
Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick said if anyone has questions on the water project going on in the city, they should simply call the city offices or DPW, don’t post it on Facebook. “There is a process, please call, please ask the questions there instead of trying to wait on Facebook for something to materialize or for us to see it,” Hendrick said. She said the questions she notices are sent along to the city and they’re happy to explain anything that’s going on with the project. “It’s all for a good thing, it’s something that really, really has to be done,” Hendrick said. “It’s a little bit of pain, but it’s a good process and we’ll get there.”
Marine City Garden Club Flower Sale
The Marine City Garden Club will host a flower sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 15, 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale will be held at the Historic City Hall grounds at 300 Broadway. The club plans to post signs on street corners in the city to promote the sale. Members of the city commission approved the event application at the recent meeting.
