Aug 7 (Reuters) – German exports and industrial production rose more than expected in June, adding to signs that Europe’s largest economy gained momentum in the second quarter.
Exports increased by 0.9% in June compared with the previous month, data from the federal statistics office showed on Friday.
The result compared with a forecast 0.2% increase in a Reuters poll.Â
Imports rose by 4.4% on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis compared with May, the statistics office said.
In the first half of 2026, 3.7% more goods were exported from Germany and 4.4% more goods were imported into Germany than in the same period of the previous year.
In June, calendar and seasonally adjusted exports to EU countries rose by 1.3% over the previous month, while exports to countries outside the EU increased by 0.3%.
Exports to the U.S. fell by 14.2% on the month.
German industrial production rose slightly in June by 0.2% compared with the previous month, the statistics office said in a separate release.
Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted a 0.1% rise.
German industrial orders rose 3.1% in June but owed their jump to large-scale orders, data showed on Thursday.
