Lions Seeking Trade Ahead of Deadline

By Jason Berndt

The Detroit Lions, stung by their recent loss to the Baltimore Ravens, look as if they are preparing to take decisive action. As per NFL analyst Cam Marino, they are intensifying their trade discussions in a bid to bolster their defensive lineup before the upcoming league trade deadline which takes place on October 31st.

The resounding and embarrassing 38-6 defeat at the hands of the Ravens, has unmistakably underscored the pressing need for defensive improvement. Acquiring a prominent defensive player through a trade is the most direct solution to address this issue, especially since several defensive starters are dealing with long-term injuries.

The Lions host the Raiders next Monday night before heading into a bye week. Following the bye, they will face the Chargers, Bears, Packers, and Saints, with a combined record of 9-17. This gives the Lions a relatively more straightforward path through the middle of the season compared to some of the other teams in their division and conference. Detroit is aiming for its first playoff appearance since 2016, and they’re also seeking their first playoff victory since the 1991 season. Notably, their playoff drought spans 31 seasons, marking the longest active playoff victory drought in the NFL. Additionally, the Lions have suffered nine consecutive playoff losses, which stands as the most consecutive playoff losses in NFL history.  This may be the season to make that collective effort to go for it.

In other Lions news, wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. has decided to step away from the team for family-related personal reasons.  With that decision, Detroit could also be looking to bolster its receiver room before the deadline as well.  We’ll have to wait until next Tuesday to see if the team will provide a trick or a treat for fans on Halloween.
