Some of the coolest moments with big-time college athletics are not what happens on the field, but the life that goes beyond it. If you follow Ohio State even casually, you know the Buckeyes like to share those calls from NFL suits when an OSU player is selected, and watching those is pure gold.
The same can be said for the calls the Ohio State staff makes to the families of players selected as captains. After all, being voted a captain is a huge deal and opens the door for future events, notoriety, and other things at OSU. So yeah, we’re a sucker for these things, and since the Ohio State football creative team shared the seven different phone calls made to the families of the newly minted captains for 2026, we thought we’d also share them with you.
Here’s a look at the moment each Ohio State captain and support person for the 2026 season experienced the benefit of notifying their loved ones about the honor.
Ohio State captain Julian Sayin, Quarterback
Ohio State captain Payton Pierce, Linebacker
Ohio State captain Jeremiah Smith, Wide Receiver
Ohio State captain Austin Siereveld, Offensive Line
Ohio State captain Kenyatta Jackson Jr., Defensive End
Ohio State captain Jaylen McClain, Safety
Ohio State captain Brandon Inniss, Wide Receiver
These are all pretty cool, and it has to make the loved ones who care for each of these players swell with pride at such an honor and memorable moment.
