Fishers guard Cooper Zachary committed to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, following his weekend official visit.
The 5-10 Zachary, who averaged 14.8 points, 5.6 assists and 2.8 steals as a junior, is one of the top 2027 players in the state. He had taken official visits to Evansville and Cal Baptist and had originally planned an official visit to Ball State for next weekend.
Florida Gulf Coast, located in Fort Myers, Fla., is part of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Eagles finished 16-18 last year in Pat Chambers’ third season as coach. The program reached the NCAA Tournament in 2013, ’16 and ’17, including a run to the 2013 Sweet Sixteen.
“I want to thank my mom and dad for every sacrifice you have made and for believing in me very step of the way,” Zachary wrote. “To my family and friends, thank you for always supporting me and being there through all the highs and lows. None of this would be possible without you.
“To all my coaches and trainers, thank you for the countless hours, early mornings, late nights and extra reps. Thank you for pushing me, believing in me, and helping me grow both on and off the court.”
Zachary goes into his senior season with 939 career points, 406 assists and 208 steals.
