Texas football is officially under two weeks away. The noise around the Longhorns program has been fairly negative recently, so I thought I’d shine some light on the situation. Despite an incomplete day from the Texas offense, a freshman continued to prove he is not your typical first-year player. Jermaine Bishop Jr. continues to force his way into the WR rotation, which has been tight in the Sarkisian era.
Bishop came down with a TD catch in yesterday’s scrimmage, tip-toeing the backend of the endzone. That is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what he’s done this offseason, particularly during fall camp. Bishop has been one of the most consistent playmakers on the team throughout camp. His maturity has been complimented by Sarkisian, saying “no moment is too big for him.”
This freshman class has proven to be one of Sarkisian’s best during his tenure. The LB trio continues to make waves, Derrek Cooper is forcing his way onto the field and the pair of edge rushers continue to shine. Even with all of those factors, Bishop seems to be in a class of his own. He’s earned high praise since he showed up on campus in winter and it seems it’ll continue onto the field this fall.
Jemaine Bishop Jr. will be a factor in this Longhorn offense. That’ll be just the beginning of his story at Texas. He worked at cornerback during summer before moving back to wide receiver during fall camp. This was dubbed a special player coming into Austin and he’s lived up to that billing so far. His specific role in this offense remains to be seen but you can be assured you’ll see No. 4 on the field consistently this season.
