In the lead-up to the Fourth of July, there’s plenty of fun happening in Northern Michigan.

Enjoy live music in Charlevoix
Weekly live performances in Charlevoix’s East Park kick off on Tuesday, June 30.
Bands on the schedule include the Charlevoix City Band, the Pine River Jazz Band and various ensembles. Performances are at 8 p.m. each Tuesday through August.

See “Dinosaur Fish” in Indian River
The Indian River Area Library will have a screening of “Dinosaur Fish” at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.
The 23-minute documentary details the efforts to return lake sturgeon to the Saginaw Bay watershed. Doug Larson of the Black River Sturgeon Facility will be present to answer questions after the screening.

Try your luck during “Bingo with Your Besties”
Gather your pals for an evening of bingo fun during Lavender Hill Farm’s Bingo with Your Besties on Wednesday, July 1.
Guests will enjoy 10 rounds of bingo in the barn, and winners will take home lavender-themed prizes. Food and drinks are BYO.
Bingo at the farm, located at 7354 Horton Bay Road N. in Boyne City, starts at 6 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults age 18 and older, or $16 at the door.

Learn all about Great Lakes dunes
Little Traverse Conservancy staff will offer a detailed discussion on Great Lakes dunes, described as “among the tallest freshwater dunes on earth.”
The presentation will include information on how dune systems form and move as well as some of the species that live on dunes.
The “Wild Wednesday: Dunes And Northern Michigan Beach Habitats” program begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1 at the Charlevoix Public Library.

Experience the Baaweting Homecoming Powwow
The 44th Annual Baaweting Homecoming Powwow will bring members of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the public together July 3-5.
The event, taking place at the Sault Tribe Powwow Grounds, features traditional dancing, drumming, contests and more.
Activities get started with an all-day spiritual gathering and sunrise ceremony on Thursday, July 2. There will be grand entries July 3-5. Admission is free and open to the public.
