Eminem's ex-wife faces arrest for failing to appear in court

Bench warrants have been issued for the arrest of Eminem’s ex-wife after she failed to appear in court to face drunk driving charges, the Macomb County prosecutor announced Thursday.

Kimberley Anne Mathers, 51, was due in a New Baltimore court on Wednesday to be sentenced in one drunk driving case and for a hearing on a second drunk driving case, according to the court.

“We really need to think about public safety,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement Thursday. “When an individual repeatedly drives while intoxicated and then fails to appear for critical court proceedings, it calls into question whether existing measures are sufficient to protect the public and ensure compliance with the judicial process.

“My office will continue to seek appropriate action to safeguard the community and uphold the integrity of the court system.”

Camilla Barkovic, Mathers’ attorney, did not immediately respond Wednesday to a request for comment.

Mathers, who lives in Chesterfield Township, pleaded no contest on May 11 to operating while impaired and failure to stop after a collision. Both crimes are punishable by 93 days in jail.

She was also supposed to be sentenced on Wednesday on the no contest plea and well as have a check-in hearing for a drunk driving charge from an incident two days after she pleaded no contest in the first case.

Mathers was charged with operating while intoxicated, third offense, which is a felony. She faces up to a year in jail, up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Authorities alleged she struck a parked car in a Chesterfield Township neighborhood and had a preliminary breath test result of 0.20, more than double the legal limit.
