Police probe death after apparent plunge at downtown Detroit high-rise

Police were investigating the death of a woman on June 17 after an apparent plunge from a downtown Detroit high-rise on Washington Boulevard near Grand River Avenue.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, the sidewalk on the Washington Boulevard side of the Washington Park Apartments was taped off, with what appeared to be a body covered in a white sheet near the entrance to the building’s parking structure beneath the apartments.

Police outside the building declined comment to a Detroit Free Press reporter, citing an active investigation. Department spokesperson Jasmin Barmore said police learned of the incident from a citizen who called 911 saying they saw the woman on the ground suffering from heavy trauma. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators were looking into what happened, Barmore said.

The 29-story building was originally known as Trolley Plaza when it opened in 1981.
