Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News takes a look at five teams that could be interested in acquiring Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, who reportedly has requested a trade.
Montreal: It’s a division rival, but the Canadiens’ lone missing piece currently is a second all-around center, and Larkin would fit perfectly. Montreal also has a depth of exceptional young talent to deal. The only question would be whether the Wings would deal Larkin to a division rival.
Anaheim: Another team on the cusp of championship contention, Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek was a longtime assistant to Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman. The Ducks have a wealth of young talent to trade.
Minnesota: Wild general manager Bill Guerin is always bold, and last season acquired defenseman Quinn Hughes, a good friend of Larkin’s, in a blockbuster trade. Minnesota is another team desperately in need of a center of Larkin’s stature, but whether the Wild have enough to make a trade is debatable.
Los Angeles: Yzerman and former Wings general manager Ken Holland, now the Kings GM, have made trades before, and obviously know each other so well. The Kings are looking to replace retired star Anze Kopitar, and Larkin would fit the bill.
New Jersey: The Devils had a disappointing season and might want to shake things up a bit. Playing with friend and Olympic teammate Jack Hughes would excite both players.
