MASON — A memorial service for Bruce Wagner, one of the two road workers killed in a crash on U.S. 127 on May 26, will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30 in Mason.
The celebration of life will be held at the Mason Holt Eagles, 1111 N. Cedar Street, according to an online obituary.
Wagner, 51, and Steve Spenle, 49, worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation and were doing pothole patching work on northbound U.S. 127, south of Holt Road, when they were struck by a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old DeWitt man, according to police and MDOT.
An investigation is ongoing, and speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said. The DeWitt man was critically injured, although there have been no publicly released updates on his condition.
The Vickers Leslie Funeral Home is handling arrangements for both men. No formal services for Spenle were planned.
Wagner’s experience in the construction industry included stints with Schaffer Concrete in Mason, Builders Redi-Mix in Lansing and MDOT in Jackson and Mason, the obituary said. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to his children, Morgan and Wyatt, it said.
Spenle was a graduate of Bath High School and earned an associate’s degree from Lansing Community College, a published obituary said.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Ingham County Animal Control or Capital Area Humane Society, the obituary said.
