4-year-old boy drowns at Jellystone Park campground in Sanilac County

A 4-year-old drowned at Jellystone Park North Port Huron in Forester Township late Tuesday, May 26, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

Rescue crews responded to the park shortly after 10:40 p.m. after a 911 call reported the child missing.

Deputies, and personnel from Port Sanilac Fire Department and Sanilac EMS responded to the scene.

The boy was found in a large pond within the campground, according to the sheriff’s office.

CPR was started and the boy was taken to Aspire Deckerville Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.

The child’s name has not been released pending the ongoing investigation.
