Threat reported at Detroit Zoo found not credible, zoo says

A reported threat Tuesday afternoon directed at the Detroit Zoo was investigated and found not to be credible, the zoo said.

The zoo said it worked with law enforcement and “upon further investigation, it was determined there was no credible threat,” it said on Instagram on Tuesday.

It said in recent week, similar calls were made to zoo across the country “with no related incidents or harm reported.”

“The safety and well-being of our guests, staff, volunteers and animals who call the Zoo home is our highest priority. We appreciate the understanding and support of our community during this time,” it said.

The zoo will be open during normal operating hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Spanning 125 acres in Royal Oak and Huntington Woods in Oakland County, the zoo is home to more than 200 species 2,000 animals, according to its website.

Last week, the zoo held a grand opening for the Fred and Barbara Erb Discovery Trails after more than a year of construction. Discovery Trails covers 7 acres along the zoo’s southwest side and marks its first interactive experience for patrons to touch animals. It features different species along with play and educational areas, an rain garden.
