Military members can see Michigan museums for free. Here's how

Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park this week announced its is offering free admission to all members of the military and their families through Labor Day weekend.

“We’re happy to announce that we are participating in the Blue Star Museum program — a national appreciation program to thank military families for their service and share with them America’s cultural treasures,” the park announced in a Facebook post on May 20.

Meijer Gardens is one of dozens of Michigan museums taking part in the annual program.

The Blue Star Museum program offers free general admission for active military personal and their families. To receive free admission at Meijer Gardens, military members must present their active military ID at the ticketing desk.

The offer is good now through Sept. 7, the park said.

What is the Blue Star Museum program?

Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Defense Department and museums across America, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve. 

The 2026 program began on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 16, and continues through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
