Harper Creek duo share medalist honors, Beavers win All-City boys golf title

BATTLE CREEK – The annual All-City Golf Tournament was twice as much fun for Harper Creek this year, because the Beavers put two of their own on top of the scoreboard.

Harper Creek senior Brendan Daugherty and Harper Creek junior Mack King shared medalist honors as they finished tied for first at the 2026 All-City Boys Golf Tournament at Marywood Golf Club on Thursday, May 21.

“Obviously, we all have that competitive nature, but it’s cool to share the title with your teammate. Great to be co-champs,” King said.

Both Daugherty and King finished with a round of 83 for the 18-hole tournament. They each reached medalist honors through different routes.

“I played well early and had the lead,” Daughtery said. “But, then I had some bad holes. I had to keep it together late and I made a really good putt for par on 17 to hold on to the lead.

King added, “I was playing pretty bad early. I checked the score with four to go and saw I was behind. I finished two under in those last four to make a push. I was hoping to win it this year and glad both of us could share it.”

Those two golfers helped Harper Creek win the team title for the fifth season in a row. Harper Creek finished with a team score of 346 with Lakeview second at 364, as Pennfield was third and St. Philip took fourth.

“We have talked for years, our goals are to win the conference, win all-city and qualify for states,” said Harper Creek coach Tony Evans. “This is five in a row and seven of the last eight, so it’s good to keep that going.”

The top 10 golfers earned all-city honors.

Harper Creek’s Jake Schragg was third, one shot behind the leaders at 84. The Beavers’ Carter Denton tied for ninth at 96.

Lakeview also had four golfers in the top 10 with Charlie Forman taking fourth with an 87 and Jay Hamric in fifth with an 89. The Spartans’ Josh Neal carded a 92 for seventh overall with Carter West finishing in a tie for ninth at 96.

Pennfield had two golfers earn all-city honors with sophomore Hudson Badger taking sixth at 91 and his brother senior Nolan Badger taking eighth at 93.
