CHELSEA — After ending a drought spanning a quarter century, Pinckney didn’t have to wait nearly as long to win its next girls track and field regional championship.
One year after winning its first regional title since 1999, the Pirates repeated by scoring 114.6 points in the Division 2 state qualifier Friday, May 15 at Chelsea High School. Chelsea was second with 78.5 points.
Junior Jaelyn Ray had a hand in three first-place finishes for the Pirates. She won the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 3.89 seconds, the 3,200 in 10:36.61 and anchored the winning 3,200 relay that included Julia Garcia, Brooklyn Reason and Madeline Baugh. They ran a time of 9:41.38.
Sophomore Emily Clark won pole vault with a leap of 9 feet, 9 inches and was on three state-qualifying relays.
The 400 relay team of Clark, Davea Crowe, Addison Wroblewski and Emma Fesl was fourth with a qualifying time of 51.70. The 800 relay team of Crowe, Kaylynne Baltzell, Wroblewski and Clark met the additional-qualifying standard by placing third in 1:47.30. Clark, Garcia, Reason and Baltzell took second in the 1,600 relay in 4:14.50.
Crowe won the 300 hurdles in 46.95 and was second in the 100 hurdles in a personal-best 15.61. Garcia qualified in the 1,600 by placing third in 5:17.44.
Pinckney’s boys qualified three individuals and a relay team for the Division 2 finals May 30 at Hamilton High School.

Sam Burtts won the 110 hurdles in 15.21 and Austin Ouillette won the 300 hurdles in 39.64 to lead the Pirates, who were fifth out of 15 teams. Cole McCraw ran 9:47.32 to place fourth in the 3,200 and qualify for the state meet.
The 3,200 relay team of John Rochowiak, Dane Losee, Lincoln Reed and McCraw took fifth in 8:12.17 to advance.
Cheslea won the regional title by a 93-82 margin over Adrian.
Division 2 regional at Frankenmuth
Fowlerville sophomore Peyton Brooks won long jump with a personal-best leap of 16 feet. Cayden Taylor qualified for the state meet in pole vault by clearing 9-3 to place third.
The only Fowlerville boy to qualify is sophomore Connell Hardenbrook, who was fifth in the 400 in 50.76. The Gladiators were 10th in the girls meet and 12th among the boys.
Girls tennis
Division 3, Region 22
Fowlerville qualified for the state finals for the first time in program history, placing second with 21 points. Host Haslett won with 30.
The Gladiators are the first Livingston County team to qualify since Brighton made the Division 1 finals in 2009.
Placing second at singles for Fowlerville were Carly Kalis at No. 3 and Eva Barr at No. 4.
Finishing second in doubles for the Gladiators were Taylor Drenchen and Mya Murawski at No. 1, Kaleigh Schoenbeck and Ella Shaw at No. 2, and Izzy Cox and Tessa Smith at No. 4.
Boys lacrosse
Hartland 19, Swartz Creek 0
Connor Gilbert had four goals and four assists, as Hartland began postseason play with a blowout victory.
Clayton Penzien had three goals and two assists, Coen Chwalek three goals and one assist, and Trevor Phillips, Liam Quick and Lincoln Robson two goals each.
Girls soccer
Brighton 3, Plymouth 1
Kate Malachino scored two goals and set up a goal by Nina Cucuz. Anna Brown-Nall had seven saves for the Bulldogs.
