The spring season started with a winning streak for softball.
The first three winners of the Monroe County Region Athlete of the Week polls for the spring came from the softball diamond.
Track and field has taken over the past three weeks starting with Luke Dulecki of New Boston Huron for April 13-19 followed by Iva Ravindra of Bedford April 20-26.
The April 27-May 3 winner is Lincoln Murbach of Erie Mason.
He drew 4,066 votes to hold off Airport softball player Julia Dyson with 2,734.
Mason’s Giuliana Nastale was third with 1,001.
A total of 10,734 votes were cast.
Will softball and track continue to dominate or will baseball, tennis, soccer, golf or lacrosse step up this week.It’s all in the hands of the voters.
Polls are now open to crown the May 4-10 winner.
Voting will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.
Here are this week’s candidates in alphabetical order:
Braden Bydlowski, Ida boys track and field: Cleared a personal-best 13-9 to win the Lenawee County Athletic Association championship in the pole vault.
Nick Coberley, Bedford baseball: Homered in the seventh inning to tie a game against Monroe in the seventh inning, then singled home the winning run in the ninth.
Julia Hughes, Ida girls track and field: Won both hurdle races and anchored two winning relays at the Lenawee County Athletic Association championships.
Zane Knezevich, Jefferson boys track and field: Broke the school record that had stood since 2004 in the 200 meters and helped the 800 relay shatter a school mark that had stood cine 1988; helped break school record in the 1,600 relay Saturday.
Lukas Linzell, SMCC baseball: Delivered a walk-off hit in the eighth inning to give the Falcons a victory over New Boston Huron, the No. 1 team in Division 2; hit a grand slam Saturday.
Lincoln Murbach, Erie Mason boys track and field: Crowned Tri-County Conference champion in both hurdles races and far exceeded his seeds by taking second in both the 100 and 200 dashes.
Guiliana Nastale, Erie Mason girls track and field: Won the 100, 200 and 400 meters and anchored the winning 400 relay at the Tri-County Conference meet.
Olivia Piepsney, SMCC softball: Recorded the 100th hit of her career among four hits in a doubleheader sweep of Monroe and pitched a 1-hitter Friday; homered and threw a shutout Friday.
Sam Przytula, Gibraltar Carlson boys track and field: Won the shot-put and discus at the Metro Classic.
Ella Rath, Dundee softball: Collected five hits, including a double to tie the score in the final inning, as the Vikings swept Grosse Ile for their first two wins of the season.
Devin Rhoades, Ida boys golf: Shot 38 at Rustic Glen in Saline to take medalist honors and help his team win a Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree.
Alli Schrader, Ida softball: Tripled home the tying run in the seventh inning then scored the game winner against Summerfield.
Catherine Shore, New Boston Huron softball: Homered twice against Riverview, including on in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game.
Miley Skamiera, New Boston Huron soccer: Scored four goals to push her season total to 35, breaking the school record set by her older sister.
Mya Smithson, Bedford softball: Homered twice, doubled, drove in six runs and collected five hits in a doubleheader sweep.
Makenzie Wolfe, Summerfield girls track and field: Led the Bulldogs to their first Tri-County Conference championship since 1990 by with big performances in distance events in a dual meet against Whiteford Tuesday and in the league meet Friday.
