I-490 lane closures coming to Rochester's western suburbs this week

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising drivers of upcoming overnight lane closures in the Rochester area starting Wednesday, April 22.

To accommodate the installation of overhead sign structures, Monroe County drivers should expect lane closures to take place along Interstate 490 between State Route 531 and the State Route 204 exit in Gates.

Roads will close to traffic starting at 10 p.m. on April 22 until 5 a.m. on April 23. Drivers should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary.

The DOT advises commuters to follow the posted detour to State Route 204, State Route 33A, near Chili Avenue, and Interstate 390. Construction schedules are subject to changes activities are weather dependent and subject to change based on conditions.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
