Who made the list for The Daily's Students of the Week for April 17?

We’re back with another group of outstanding high schoolers in Livingston County.

Each week, high school principals and staffers in Livingston County share their nominees for Student of the Week with The Daily. We share those honorees online Fridays and in print Sundays.

This week’s students were nominated for academic achievements, personal growth, setting an example and a commitment to service.

Erik December, Brighton High School

Erik is a thoughtful, creative and highly motivated student who has distinguished himself both academically and artistically. Maintaining a weighted GPA of 4.0 or above throughout high school is an impressive accomplishment and a testament to his dedication and intellectual curiosity.

Erik’s passion for storytelling and the arts shines through his extensive involvement in theater over all four years of high school. Whether performing in dramatic productions or musicals, he brings creativity, compassion and insight to every role. His aspiration to pursue creative writing and playwriting reflects his desire to not only entertain but also inspire and teach others through meaningful stories. Beyond the stage, Erik has demonstrated kindness and empathy through service, such as creating and donating blankets for senior dogs.

Mya Murawski, Fowlerville High School

Mya, a senior and member of the varsity volleyball and tennis teams, is a dedicated and hardworking student who consistently strives for success in the classroom. She brings a positive attitude to everything she does — always a shining light both in and out of school. Her easygoing personality allows her to adapt seamlessly to any situation.

Mya is highly coachable, actively seeking constructive feedback because she genuinely wants to grow and improve in all areas of her life. She leads by example through her effort, attitude and willingness to learn, demonstrating daily what it means to be a true Gladiator.

Keely Walaskay, Hartland High School

Keely, a freshman, is an incredibly sweet, hardworking, polite and thoughtful young woman. She’s a student who genuinely cares about those around her. When she talks to you, she really talks to you and she remembers the little details. Keely doesn’t just do an assignment — she really puts the time and effort into learning the material. She maintains top marks in all of her classes, but her focus is the learning, which makes her a joy to have in class.

She is involved in band (cadet and jazz band) and creative writing. She is also an outstanding artist. For French class, she created a beautiful portrait of one of the singers in our Manie Musicale (French music March Madness) unit just for fun, and she was chosen for the final reveal video which was shown to over a quarter of a million French learners worldwide. We are very proud to have Keely as an Eagle.

Andy Brinker, Howell High School

Andy, a senior, maintains a strong academic record while continuing to challenge himself with Advanced Placement coursework. He has been involved in several school activities during his time at Howell High School, including Student Council, Quizbowl, FCCLA, eSports and Video Game Band, demonstrating consistent participation in the school community. Andy’s steady commitment to his academics and involvement makes him a solid choice for this week’s Student of the Week.

Eve Sudds, Pinckney Community High School

Eve has been named Student of the Week for truly embodying a love of learning in all that she does. She approaches each class with curiosity and a positive attitude, consistently asking thoughtful questions and seeking opportunities to grow. Eve’s sense of humor adds joy to the classroom, creating an environment where others feel comfortable and engaged.

Beyond her academic dedication, Eve is known for her kindness and willingness to help others. She is always ready to support her classmates, offering encouragement and lifting those around her. A sophomore Honors student earning straight As, Eve is also an accomplished musician, thespian, tennis player and bowler. She exemplifies what it means to be both an outstanding student and a compassionate member of the school community.

Tommy Reilly, Kensington Woods Schools

Tommy, a freshman, is a strong student who stays focused, works hard and consistently puts strong effort into everything he does. He currently has a 3.8 GPA and his dedication and passion for math has really stood out. Tommy earned a perfect score on the math section of the PSAT both last spring as an eighth grader and again this fall as a freshman.

Tommy’s effort extends beyond academics. He plays saxophone in the Kensington Woods Schools band and is a forward on the basketball team, showing the same dedication in his extracurriculars that he brings to the classroom. He is also known for being kind and well-liked by his peers and is a positive presence in the KWoods school community.
