More resources arrive for Marine City 'possible active shooter'

Police are on the scene of a possible active shooter situation in Marine City in St. Clair County, according to Cottrellville Township.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post at 9 p.m. that additional resources had arrived and “will be doing a thorough check of the area.”

“Please be advised, there is an active incident on S Water St in Marine City,” the post said. “Please avoid the area. If you are in the immediate area, please shelter in place until more information becomes available.”

The Cottrellville Township office said on its Facebook page Sunday that the scene remained active as of 8 p.m. Sunday and people should avoid downtown Marine City until the scene is cleared.

At 7:32 p.m., a post said: “Out of an abundance of caution, all residents and visitors are asked to stay away from the area until an official all clear is issued. Law enforcement continues to respond.”

In an 8 p.m. update, the scene remained active, police said.

“There are no new changes at this time. Residents and visitors should continue to stay away from the area until an official all clear is issued,”the post said.

Cottrellville Township said another update would be “provided shortly.”
