Girls basketball roundup: Portland, P-W advance to regional finals

PORTLAND 70, ALMA 29

ALMA — Lilly Thelen led the Raiders with a team-high 23 points as they move on to the Division 2 regional final with a victory over Alma (17-7). Leigha Roberson scored 14 points, Summer Stopczynski notched 11 points and Claire Lyon chipped in nine points for Portland. Giovanna Clark and Morgan Seeley each had seven points for Alma. The Raiders (21-4) will face Flint Powers (22-3) in the regional final at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11 at Alma. 

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 39, LAINGSBURG 24

NEW LOTHROP — Alonna Thelen led all scorers with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to propel the Pirates into the Division 3 regional final with a win over Laingsburg. Adrianna Eklund picked up 11 points and hauled in eight rebounds and Elly Bengel added 10 points and snagged three steals for Pewamo-Westphalia. Lilli Morrill finished with a team-best 11 points for the Wolfpack (20-5). The Pirates (23-2) will take on Stockbridge (19-6) in the regional final at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at New Lothrop.

STOCKBRIDGE 37, NEW LOTHROP 35

NEW LOTHROP — The Panthers knocked off MMAC champion New Lothrop (22-3) to secure a spot in the Division 3 regional title game. Stockbridge (19-6) will face Pewamo-Westphalia in the regional final at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at New Lothrop.
