Dozens of flights scheduled to arrive at or depart from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport have been canceled as a major winter storm hits the Northeast.
A total of 58 flights had been canceled at CVG as of the morning of Feb. 23, according to FlightAware, a real-time flight tracking website. Many of those flights were set to depart from or arrive at airports on the East Coast.
More than 5,300 flights within, into, or out of the U.S. on Monday have been canceled, the website’s data shows. The bulk of the disruptions hit airports in and around New York, Boston and Philadelphia, as parts of the Northeast recorded between 17 and 20 inches of snow, USA TODAY reported.
Over 40 million people were under blizzard warnings from Maryland to Maine as the storm brought snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour and winds up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
As a result of the winter storm, some flights may be canceled for a day or two after the weather clears, as airlines work to get all their aircraft and crews back into place for normal operations.
Airlines will automatically rebook passengers on another flight if their flight is canceled. For those who decide not to travel after a cancellation, federal rules require airlines to provide refunds.
Travelers can check the status of their flight by checking CVG’s website.
