Emmet County Sheriff's Office to get five new vehicles

PETOSKEY — The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office is refreshing its fleet of vehicles with five new units set to arrive this year.

The Emmet County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase during their meeting on Monday, Feb. 9.

“As you remember in the budget process, we put in specifications for four new patrol vehicles — those are Dodge Durangos — and one Chevy Tahoe, which will be the K9 unit,” said county administrator David Boyer.

According to agenda materials, the Dodge Durangos will be coming from Lafontaine Ford and the Chevrolet Tahoe is coming from Berger Chevrolet, through the state’s MiDeals purchasing program. The cost for the five new vehicles is $229,422.

Boyer noted that the vehicles will need additional emergency and technology equipment installation before they are ready for use. The equipment and installation by Tele-Rad will cost an additional $148,126, putting the total cost at $377,548.

“Out of that, when we’re done though there will be five vehicles that come out of service,” Boyer said. “So we replace old with new.”

The commissioners approved the purchase in a 6-1 vote.
