Laura Bramlett, 47, died Jan. 21 as a result of injuries that resulted from a home fire on the 4300 block of Yankee Road in St. Clair Township. The Macomb Daily reported that Bramlett worked as a substance abuse counselor.

“Our thoughts are with the family who lost their loved one, their home, belongings and two pets,” said the St. Clair Area Fire Authority in a Facebook post.

The fire started around 2 a.m.

“At 2:20 am deputies were dispatched to the 4300 block of Yankee Rd. for a house fire with individuals still inside,” according to a Facebook post by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. “Upon arrival, a 73-year-old female and 16-year-old female were on the front porch. One female was still trapped inside. Deputies made multiple attempts to enter the home. Unfortunately, the first floor, along with the rest of the home, was filled with smoke and flames. St. Clair Area Fire Authority arrived on location and were able to get the remaining female out through a second story window. 47-year-old Laura Bramlett was transported to McLaren Macomb by Tri-Hospital EMS where she succumbed to her injuries.”

The wintery weather made fighting the fire difficult.

“Crews operated in very harsh weather conditions with temperatures in single digits and wind chills below zero, creating extremely challenging conditions for crews,” said the fire authority. “Firefighters remained on scene until 7:45 am, ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished.”

The fire department thanked assisting agencies and partners on scene for their support and coordination including, Marine City Area Fire Authority, Kimball Township Fire Department, Tri-Hospital EMS, Saint Clair Police Department, Saint Clair County Sheriff Office, St. County Central Dispatch and Saint Clair County Road Commission, DTE and Semco Energy.

St. Clair County Sheriff Detectives continue to investigate the fire.
